Privacy Policy

What is stored on your device

The App saves the following locally, in the App's private storage area:

• your name, sobriety start date, and current streak; • the motivations, triggers, tone, and reminder preferences you choose; • chips earned, challenges joined, and check-ins; • checklists you create or complete; and • the reason and photos you add in My Why.

Your AI Coach conversations are deliberately absent from that list. They are held in memory only, so closing the App discards them. There is nothing on your device to find, nothing in a backup, and nothing for us to hand over.

The rest is included in your device backup, so restoring a new phone or transferring from an old one brings your progress with it. That backup is yours — it goes to your own iCloud or computer, never to us. Deleting the App deletes the local copy.

What leaves your device: the AI Coach

When you send a message to the AI Coach, it travels to a server we operate, which forwards it to Google's Gemini API and returns the reply. The following is sent:

• the message you typed; • up to your six most recent messages from the current conversation, for continuity; and • the context used to shape replies — your first name, chosen tone, motivations, and triggers.

Your streak, sobriety date, check-ins, checklists, and My Why are not sent when you message your coach. A small summary of counts is sent for your periodic review — see the next section.

Our server exists so that the App does not have to carry a key to the AI provider. It stores nothing you write. It keeps only what it needs to work: a record that your device is a genuine copy of this App, and a count of how many messages it has sent today. It does not record who you are, and it does not log the content of any message or reply.

Your device proves it is running a genuine copy of Next Round using Apple's App Attest. This requires no account and tells us nothing about you.

Google processes the forwarded messages under its own terms and privacy policy, and we do not control its retention practices. Because these messages describe your recovery, please treat the chat as you would any online service: avoid sharing details you would not want processed by a third party.

If you never open the AI Coach chat, the App sends none of your information anywhere.

What leaves your device: your weekly review

Once a week the App looks back over the week and your AI Coach writes you a short check-in. To do that, it sends a summary of counts to the same server, which forwards it to Google's Gemini and returns the text.

Exactly this is sent, and nothing else:

• how many days you closed out, and how many days the period covered; • how many mornings you made the pledge; • your average mood as a number from 1 to 5, and whether it went up, down or held steady against the week before; • how many cravings you logged, how many were strong, and which of the App's trigger names came up most; • how many nights you wrote an inventory — not a word of what you wrote; • which milestones you reached; • your current number of days alcohol-free; and • the money figure, only if you gave us your own drinking costs.

Nothing you have written is ever sent. Not your inventories, not your My Why, not the notes you add to a craving, not your conversations. The distinction is between how many times something happened and what you said about it: the first leaves your device, the second never does.

This is enforced, not merely intended. The summary has no field capable of carrying your writing, and the server rejects any request that tries to add one.

The review itself is saved on your device so you can look back at earlier weeks. Our server keeps no copy of it.

What we do not collect

There are no user accounts and no login. We do not know your name, email, or identity.

We operate one server, described above, solely to relay AI Coach messages without shipping a key inside the App. It stores no conversations, no profiles, and nothing that identifies you. Your streak, check-ins, checklists, and My Why never reach it.

The App contains no analytics, advertising, tracking, or crash-reporting software. We do not build a profile of you, we do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not sell or share your personal information.

We receive no automatic reports about how you use the App. If you email us for support, we will have whatever you choose to include in that email.

The website

This policy is about the App. The website at https://nextroundsobriety.com is separate, and it does count visits — using Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies.

It stores nothing in your browser, gives you no identifier, and cannot tell a returning visitor from a new one. There is no banner to accept because there is nothing to consent to: no cookie, no local storage, and no profile. We see totals — how many people opened a page, roughly where in the world from, and which site linked here — never individuals.

One page does a specific job. The Download button goes to https://nextroundsobriety.com/get, which counts as one visit and then forwards you to Apple's App Store. That tells us how many people chose to download, and nothing whatsoever about who. It is a counter, not a marker: no cookie is set on the way through, and the next person's visit is indistinguishable from yours.

We run no advertising and the site is connected to no ad product. Visiting a page about drinking says something private about you, and that signal has no business in an advertising system.

Nothing about the website is connected to anything in the App. The site does not know whether you installed it, and the App does not report anything back. The App itself still collects nothing at all — no analytics, no advertising, no tracking — and that is unchanged by any of this.

About the privacy switches in Settings

Profile › Privacy Settings contains switches for usage analytics, crash reports, anonymous progress data, and community insights.

To be clear about the current state of the App: none of these features exist yet, and none of that data is being collected regardless of how the switches are set. The switches record your preference so that it is respected if those features are ever added. This policy will be updated before any of them begins collecting anything.

Links to other organizations

The App links to outside resources such as aa.org, aa-intergroup.org, na.org, and smartrecovery.org, and can open Big Book PDFs hosted by Alcoholics Anonymous World Services.

Opening one of these links connects your device to that organization, which will see your IP address and standard request information as with any website visit. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their privacy practices.

Tapping a crisis phone number places a call from your device using your normal carrier service.

Your controls

Delete — Profile › Privacy Settings › Delete My Data permanently erases your streak, sobriety date, chips, check-ins and checklists from this device. It cannot be undone, and we have no copy to restore from.

There is deliberately no export. Writing your recovery history to a file that then lives outside the App — in your email, or wherever it is sent — would create exactly the unprotected copy this App is built to avoid. If you want your progress to survive a new phone, your device backup already carries it.

Because your data lives only on your device, these controls are the whole story: there is no separate request to make of us.

Children

Next Round is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, or under the minimum age of digital consent where you live.

Security

Your data is stored in the App's private container, protected by your device's own encryption and passcode. Traffic to the AI provider is sent over an encrypted connection.

No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. Keeping a passcode or biometric lock on your device is the single most effective protection for the information the App holds.

Your rights

Depending on where you live — for example, under the GDPR in the UK and EU, or the CCPA in California — you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, and to object to certain processing.

Because we hold none of your data ourselves, there is nothing for us to disclose, correct or hand over. The delete control in the App removes everything, immediately and without asking us. For anything else, contact us at support@nextroundsobriety.com.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "last updated" date above will change, and where the change is significant we will make that clear in the App. We will not begin collecting new categories of information without updating this policy first.
