Stopping or cutting back heavily can be medically dangerous on your own. Withdrawal can cause seizures and can in some cases be life-threatening. Please talk to a doctor before you stop.

Questions
The same answers the app gives under Profile › Help & FAQ.
Using the app
What is the daily pledge?
Each morning you commit to today, and only today. That's the whole idea behind "one day at a time" — a day is a promise you can actually keep. Your reason and photos sit right above the button, so you make the commitment while looking at what it's for.
What is the nightly inventory?
An optional look back at the day: what went well, what was hard, anything you're grateful for, anyone you owe an apology, and a plan for tomorrow. Tomorrow's plan shows up on tomorrow's pledge. Nothing here is required — you can close out a day without writing a word.
How is my streak calculated?
Whole days since your sobriety start date. You can change that date any time from Profile › Sobriety Date, and your chips and stats recalculate to match.
How do the chips work?
They're milestone markers, awarded automatically as your streak passes each one — starting with the white chip on day one. They're derived from your sobriety date, so correcting the date corrects your chips. They are markers in this app, not chips issued by any organization.
What are checklists and the daily routine?
Checklists are short routines — a morning one, an evening one, a coping kit for when a craving hits. Star one and it joins My Daily Routine, which clears itself each morning so you can run it again. Ones you haven't starred keep their state until you reset them.
Do I need to be in AA to use this?
No. The app borrows a few ideas that work — a daily commitment, a nightly look back, milestones worth marking — but it doesn't ask you to join anything, follow any steps, or believe anything in particular. If you are in a program, it sits alongside it. If you aren't, nothing here requires one.
Your AI Coach
Is my conversation private?
Your conversation is never saved. It exists in memory while the app is open and is gone when the app closes — there is nothing on your device to find, nothing in a backup, and nothing for us to hand over.
To write a reply, your message, up to your six most recent messages, and your first name, tone, motivations and triggers are sent to a server we run, which passes them to Google's Gemini and returns the answer. Our server keeps no conversation. Your streak, sobriety date, check-ins, checklists and My Why are never sent.
Google processes those messages under its own terms. Treat the chat as you would any online service and avoid details you wouldn't want handled by a third party.
Why doesn't my coach remember yesterday?
Because nothing is stored — that's the trade. Within a conversation it follows the thread; when you close the app it starts fresh. We decided a coach with no memory was better than a transcript of your worst nights sitting on a disk somewhere.
Do I need an account?
No. There's no sign-up, no email, no password. Your device proves it's running a genuine copy of the app using Apple's App Attest, which tells us nothing about you.
Is the AI coach a real person?
No. It is software and it can be wrong. It's for the moments between meetings — it doesn't replace a human sponsor, a counselor, a therapist, or medical care, and nothing it says is medical advice. For withdrawal symptoms, talk to a doctor: coming off alcohol can be genuinely dangerous.
Setbacks
What if I drink?
It doesn't end anything. When you're ready, set a new start date in Profile › Sobriety Date and your streak and chips recalculate from it. There is no button that marks a day as a failure, on purpose — a drink is information about what you were up against, not a verdict on you.
Your coach is there for exactly that conversation, and it won't judge you.
Do I lose my chips?
Chips follow your streak, so changing your start date recalculates them. What you did before still happened — a year sober is a year you lived, whatever the counter says today.
Your data
Where is my information kept?
On your phone, in the app's private storage: your name, dates and streak, your preferences, chips and check-ins, your checklists, and the reason and photos in My Why. Your coach conversations are deliberately not in that list.
Will my data move to a new phone?
It's included in your device backup, so restoring a new phone or transferring from an old one brings your progress with it. That backup is yours — it goes to your own iCloud or computer, never to us.
There is no live sync between two devices yet, so using the app on a phone and an iPad today means two separate sets of progress.
What does "Delete My Data" do?
Erases everything the app holds on your phone — profile, streak, dates, chips, check-ins, checklists, inventories, and your My Why photos — and cancels your reminders. It can't be undone, and there's nothing on our side to delete, because we never had it.
Help
Where do I find a meeting?
aa.org/find-aa lists AA meetings by location and time, and the free "Meeting Guide" app shows nearby ones in real time. For online meetings, try aa-intergroup.org. If AA isn't for you, SMART Recovery (smartrecovery.org) and NA (na.org) run their own.
Something's wrong, or I have a question
Email support@nextroundsobriety.com. Please don't include anything you wouldn't want in an email — and if it's urgent, use the crisis numbers instead of waiting on a reply.
